Becoming who you "really" are or being who you are

Wim: Paul, a few days ago you talked about "dropping all beliefs in order to become your real self."
Might it not be a good idea to find out if you have understood the meaning of that statement, but not with the focus on "dropping beliefs" or the "reality of self," but on the word "becoming?"

Paul: Wim, I consider certain ideas useful as hypothesis or as a representation of reality. Hypotheses become beliefs when considered true. But I'm not that vain to think that my ideas are so large they could embrace reality, even if they are about the "reality of self" or…myself.

Wim: It has nothing much to do with vanity (or even humility). One either embraces reality, or one is still feeding into or feeding off illusion.
The statement, "dropping all beliefs in order to become your real self" is in itself flawed. Notice that the operative word in that sentence is "becoming." It is the use of that word that constitutes the flaw: obviously one cannot become who one is already, one can only just simply recognize what reality is and unconditionally live it.
