Wonderful, wondrous, awesome...
So what else can one do but smile?!
The Buddha's Smile, Mirth and Exaltation *
The word 'miracle' (French miracle, Latin miraculum) derives from the Sanskrit word 'smerah' which means 'to smile' and in its turn 'smerah' derives from the Sanskrit / Aryan root (S)MEI..."to smile, to be astonished, to be in awe".
Smiling Buddha in Bayon (Angkor Thom)
A miracle is that what invokes awe in us, wonderment... it makes us smile.
When a smile is not part of wonderment and awe, what we seem to be focused on is only an illusion **.
* It is not for nothing that Chinese and Japanese Buddhas are often depicted as being in great mirth.
** This means of course that many religious or spiritual so-called miracles have to be de-mythologized!
